Research On Women’s Political Status In Shanxi Province

The expansion of women’s rights is the basis and prerequisite for women’s political participation and the principle of the comprehensive progress of the society, determining the degree of a country’s civilization. Only when women’s political status being wholly improved, can women play a part in the construction of the socialist modernization. From 1990 to 2010, the National women’s Federation together with the National Bureau of Statistics conducted three surveys on the women’s social status in China. From the data of the three surveys, women’s social status has been greatly improved and more attention has been paid to women’s political status, yet there is still a big gap between the ideal and the reality of the women’s political status. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance women’s political status continually. Based on the data of the third survey and from the view of social gender perspective, the thesis conduct a comprehensive study on women’s political status, intending to analyze the present situation of women’s political status, exploring the factors influencing the political status of women and put forward the corresponding measures for the improvement of women’s political status.The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction, mainly introducing the research background and significance, carding and evaluating the relevant research from the home and abroad in recent years, pointing out that the research method of this paper is quantitative methodologies and summarizing the innovations.In the second part, putting forward that the women’s political status is composed of women’s political rights, women’s political cognition, women’s political participation, women’s status in the political structure and the evaluation on women’s political status form the society. Meanwhile, this part emphasizes that the theoretical basic is social gender theory.In the third part, based on the view of social gender, the thesis analyzes the present situation of women’s political status in women’s political rights, political cognition, political behavior, women’s status in the political structure and the evaluation on women’s political status form the society in Shanxi province. Even though women’s political rights are improving constantly, political cognition and participation has been increasing, women’s status in the political structure and society evaluation on women’s political status is still low. Raising women’s political status brooks no delay.In the fourth part of the paper, the influencing factors have been studied following the data analyzing. The differences between urban and rural areas arouse rural women’s political status being lower than the city women; economic status determines women’s participation in politics fundamentally, but now women’s economic status in Shanxi is not optimistic; the lower education level leads to the low quality of political cognition and political participation of women in Shanxi; social security is in a low level which limits women’s political participation; traditional culture reduces the inherent power of women’s political participation from the ideological consciousness.In the last part, the thesis proposes the methods for raising the political status of women. It is believed that only to optimize the policy and law environment of the women’s political participation, improve gender equality in the economic sphere, construct harmonious gender culture, promote women’s political participation quality as well as enhance the level of the rural women’s political participation, can women’s political status be fundamentally improved.
