The issue of relationship between political weibo and image-building of government has always been highly concerned by the government and the academic of China.Expanding with a higher rapid of development especially in the recent two years, political weibo has provided a new vehicle for the two-way communication between the government and the people. As a mass amount of political weibo emerge, the issue of how to use the political weibo to build a perfect image of the government is paid more attention.Under the background of a rapid development of the political weibo and a shift of government’s functions during social transformation period, this thesis tries to make reconsideration and thoroughly thinking about image-building of the government by the political weibo on the basis of former researches of the impression management theory.For the issue of the relationship between image-building of the government and political weibo, a hypothesis that political weibo may improve the image of the government is put forward according to the overview and study of the relevant research achievements. Based on a further discussion of the applicability of the two-component model of impression management theory to the hypothesis, the thesis gives a complete description and analysis of the issue that political weibo improves the image of the government to some extent.The thesis focuses on the hypothesis that political weibo may improve the image of the government from the perspective of the impression management theory. To make a more persuasive demonstration, the thesis selects "@ShanghaiCity" as the research object. By surveying the content of "@ShanghaiCity" and the feedback from the users of it, we can see that "@ShanghaiCity" contributes to build a service-oriented government image. The thesis tries to make a necessary conclusion and give effective advice for a better use of the political weibo from the perspective of the impression management theory. Furthermore, concluded from the analysis of the impression management theory, this thesis makes an extension of the applicability of the impression management theory.
