ObjectiveVagrants and beggars are the one who are begging in the city street because theycan not afford the cost of their food and live,no relatives to depend on, nor do getthe city minimum living guarantee or rural five guarantees.After the reform andopening up, with the development of economy, big city especially the coastal areas ofeconomic development, need a large labour force resources.At the same time, largenumber of vagrants and beggars enter the cities, the structure of vagrants team ischanging.Reasons for begging is various, they are not only from the societyl, economy,history culture, institution but also from their own and family.The purpose of thisstudy is to know the living conditions of vagrants and beggars in city,analyse theconstitution of vagrants and beggars,, the behaviors, causes and their health status, sothat get a more comprehensive understanding of the city vagrants and beggars andprovide a theoretical basis for government departments to formulate relevant policies.Observation Object and Methods1.Investigation objectSelect all the vagrants and beggars city rescue station has rescued during2011.1to2013.12.The people who were rescued are sent to the aid station by the city publicsecurity departments and community staff, or vagrants and beggars themselvesresorted to rescue station.2.The investigation indexRecord the general characteristics of patients (gender, age, nationality, nativeplace, educational level, marital status, social security), situation of vagrants(time forstray, living places, stray reasons) and status of health (physical disability or half bodyhemiplegy, mental abnormalities, frostbite, death, baby abandoned, trauma, ascites,blind, deaf mute, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, tuberculosis).3. Statistical methodsStatistic the constitution of various conditions and the3years of the frequency of occurrence and change trend. The collected data using SPSS17.0statistical softwarein the test were analyzed statistically, significant level α=0.05.ResultsThe investigation from2011to2013investigate2553vagrants and beggars.Theage range from infancy to70years of age or older. The number of beggars who are30-70years old increased year by year from2011to2013(P<0.05). The proportion ofthe vagrants and beggars who get junior high school education is70.1%, and theproportion is increasing year by year (P<0.05);the proportion of married is58.4%,unmarried accounted for25.3%, during the three years the proportion of unmarrieddecreased significantly (P<0.05), married tramp ratio increased significantly(P<0.05);the proportion of vagrants and beggars from native province counted for60.6%.and ratio increased significantly (P<0.05);The rural household accounts for73.2%;the vagrants and beggars without social security accounted for76%,and theratio of people without security increased during the three years.People who stray under one year accounted for93.4%,an the ratio increasedduring the three years significantly(P<0.05);Stray housing in the long distance busstation accounted for51.3%, in the train station accounted for14.2%, during the threeyears the ratio in the long distance station increased significantly (P<0.05).Thereasons why they stray, vagrant who went to work or lost wallet accounted for53.1%,the people who stray in order to afford the poor families accounted for20.6%,people who have mental disorder or mental retardation accounted for12.1%,during the three years the ratio of vagrant who went to work or lost walletincreased significantly(P<0.05).The results of the survey of vagrants and beggars in health status, mentalanomaly prevalence rate was the highest, accounted for12.2%, followed by trauma(7.1%) and physical disability or hemiplegic (7.6%), the detection frequency of"physical disability or hemiplegic","frostbite","trauma "," deaf/blind " decreasedsignificantly (P<0.05), the detection frequency of mental anomaly in annual rescuepersonnel was the highest, and no significant decrease. The detection rate ofinfectious diseases showed a declining trend (P<0.05).ConclusionThe higher proportion of vagrants and beggars of the city were male,youngadults,culture degree in junior middle school。The proportion of vagrants and beggars who had social security reduced year by year。The vagrants and beggarsmainly came from rural area。Wandering time at one year or less had the highestpercentage。The main dwell places of vagrants and beggars were long-distance busstation and train station,the top three reasons of vagrants and beggars were migrantworkers/lost wallet, addressing family poverty and mental anomaly/low intelligence. Vagrants and beggars in mental anomaly in annual rescuepersonnel were the highest proportion, while the frequency of occurrence ofinfectious diseases declining each year.
