The "Political Participation" In The View Of Marxism And Its Theory And Practice In China

Political participation is the core of democracy, which reflects the position and function of citizens playing in social political life. Western scholars on Politics started the research on the subject earlier, and they have built a fairly sound theory system. In China, however, the study began later, but on the basis of Marxism and combined with Chinese political environment, it has made a rapid development. Since reform and opening up, the educational level of Chinese citizens has been improved significantly and the awareness of political participation was growing fast. Meanwhile the new social strata and interest groups were appearing continually. In order to seek for their own interests, these groups showed high enthusiasm on political participation. These changes promoted the continuous development of our democracy, and brought forward higher requirements on it. This thesis is based on the present situation of the political participation of current Chinese, and tries to, guided by the Marxism, absorb critically the beneficial achievements of the western political participation theory, in order contribute to the perfection of the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part expounds and analyzes the concept of "political participation", including its connotation, classifications, channels, and influence factors as well as its effects on society, nation and individuals. In the second part, we discuss, first of all, Marx and Engels’s political participation thoughts; then introduce Lenin’s thought and practice; and thirdly focus on the theory and practice of political participation in the process of sinicization of Marxism. The third part illustrates the political participation system with Chinese characteristics, analyzing the existing problems of current political participation in our country, and lastly trying to put forward some countermeasures to solve these problems.
