The Evolution Process Of Large Residential Community’s Exploration Of Autonomous

There are differences between the word "community" in China and Western countries (ever since F. Tonnies’Gemeinschaft). These differences are reflected in two aspects:Firstly, government plans the community base on the area rather than the common spirit. This has led to the lack of sense of belonging to the community; secondly, government shows great power in the construction of the community. The community needs to do more for the government but not for the residents. This limits the enthusiasm for residents to participate in the autonomous. It is needed to grasp a relationship, which is between the government and the autonomous power, when government community in China. That is the relationship between state and society theory. The large community, which is consist by the affordable houses, is a new thing during the decade. It doesn’t have an autonomous foundation at first. Through investigating a large community in Shanghai, in the vertical to figure out the evolution process of the exploration of neighborhood committee autonomy, and in the horizontal to get a better understanding of the function and daily system of it. This process is from relying on the government to working together with the government, and from the government mobilization to the coordination. In the end, the paper analyses the role of the state in the community, holding the idea that the government and the autonomous power are both needed in the constriction of the community. They both help to make the community get stronger.
