The Study On Empty Nester’s Life Care Under The Mode Of Community Care

With the significant development of China’s economy and society, China’s aging process is accelerating and the quantity of aging population keeps increasing constantly. As a vulnerable group, their material life, economic life and all kinds of rights have caused all social public concern. And the empty nesters face more difficulties in life care which affect their living quality as well as their physical and psychological health, especially these empty nesters caused by displacement and resettlement. They have to face more life care plight caused by changing of living style, children being outside and kinship networks alienated. Therefore, it become particularly important that how to help them to integrate social support resources and solve their life care plight through the intervention of social work.This research takes empty nesters living in the resettlement community of a sub-district in Wuxi as the research object, applying theories and methods of social work to empirical research and carry out relevant practice focusing on the empty nesters living in the resettlement community. After the process of investigating the basic present situation of empty nesters, it is found that from the perspective of distribution, empty nesters are widespread. There are some empty nesters distributed in seven communities of a sub-district in Wuxi; from the perspective of source, empty nesters are mainly from five community committees, and the First community committees and the Second community committees are occupied most of these empty nesters. Among these empty nesters, it shows that the couples are more than the alone; women are a little more than men; the age of majority empty nesters is from 70 to 79 years old.On the basis of above, this article does empirical investigation into empty nesters’ source of finance, living quality and psychological status through questionnaires and private interviews. The results have showed that the income level of empty nesters’family is generally low. Most empty nester families’ income just reach the level of coping with daily expense and most of the expense are medical expense which is rigid spending for most empty nesters families. At the same time, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases are the most prominent issues troubling empty nesters. And disease seriously damage their self-care ability. But because their children do not go back home frequently, they have to take care of their daily life by themselves or their spouses. Obviously, medical services and daily care become the most urgent need for them.When deeply analyzing the empty nesters’ resources of social support, we reveal further causes of empty nesters’ living quality dilemma. There are many problems, for example, chaos of formal social support from the government, community and formal organization, allocation of public resources being not ensured, policy becoming divorced from reality. Informal social support still exists many problems: informal social support from family members, friends and neighborhoods have been weakening their family functions, reducing the communication between family relations, destroying neighborhood relations. In response to the plight of empty nesters, undoubtedly community care model has strong feasibility and applicability. This article has suggested that the community care can be served as a working model to step in empty nesters’living quality.This article has also further analysed two models of community care, and choosen "community development assistance mode" according to the actual situation. Before intervening empty nesters’life care under the mode of community care, this study designs the corresponding intervention strategies. First, social workers should understand the community and the client’s basic situation; second, build trust relationship with the client; third, establish the community support network. And finally, social workers carry out the relevant intervention.Based on the above analysis, this article applies the community care model in the community work method to carry out practice according to the empty nesters’ living quality plight. After the evaluation of the implementation process and results, it has showed that this model can help with integration of empty nesters’ social support, meeting their demand of living quality to a certain extent. While there is still some space for the current research to improve, mainly due to that the research object is very special and then there is a lot of space to improve the methods and models in the process of social work intervention. However, there is no doubt that the community care model can further improve localization of solving the empty nesters’ living quality plight and meeting their demand, which can be deeply discussed in the following time.
