Based on grass-root civil servants’current mental health status, with Symptom Check List 90 as study tool,181 grass-root civil servants in Baixia District, Nanjing as objects, this study shows the current situation of these civil servants’mental health. Moreover, with the tool of working pressure interview questionnaire (official version) and Index of well-being explores its relation with pressure and sense of happiness. The study indicates as follows:Firstly, the situation of grass-root civil servants’mental health differs notably in different ages, working years and positions. Those at the age of 18-30 years old and with working experience of 3-10 years have lower level of mental health. Lower position, lower mental health is.Secondly, compared with the average mental health level of adults nationwide, grass-root civil servants’is lower.Thirdly, the situation of the grass-root civil servants’mental health and pressure is positively related. Regression analysis indicates that working pressure can jointly predict 32.1% variation of their mental health. And meanwhile this sort of pressure can explain and predict the situation of their mental health to a certain extentFourthly, the situation of the grass-root civil servants’mental health and their sense of well-being are negatively related. Regression analysis indicates that their mental health can jointly predict 30.5% variation of their happiness. Grass-root civil servants’mental health can explain and predict their sense of happiness to a certain extent.Finally, based on these findings, this study proposes how to better civil servants’ psychological heath:firstly, the grass-root civil servants should pay more attention to relieving their own pressure and improving their own self-adjustment capability secondly, the grass-root civil servants should improve their competence so that they can respond confidently to a series of unexpected events at work; the local government should establish a sound psychological health security mechanism for civil servants and prevent these servants’potential psychological disease; fourthly, the government department concerned should make up positive psychological health education mechanism to strengthen the psychological quality of grass-root civil servants.
