An Analysis Of Confucianism On Sino-Japan Pubic Diplomacy

As a kind of unofficial outward promotion activity, public diplomacy plays a critical role in building the national image, expressing the position and realizing the interests. China and Japan are close neighbors across the sea, with tight relationship in economy but disputes in politics. Such complex relationship makes the public diplomacy activities between these two countries become increasingly important.Confucianism is just like a bond, which has produced a lot of association between Chinese and Japanese culture, and this association always accompanies public diplomacy activities. Therefore, this dissertation is trying to analyze that what kind of effects has been Confucianism brought to the public diplomacy between China and Japan from the perspective of culture.The dissertation is divided into 4 chapters. The first chapter is the overview the current situation of public diplomacy between China and Japan, which mainly summarize the development of public diplomacy between the two countries after the establishment of PRC. This chapter could be regarded as the part of raising the question – why such situation happened in public diplomacy between the two countries? The following content(Chapter2-4) is focusing on answer the question.There are many philosophical diplomatic ideas hiding in Confucianism, and the precious experiences in the ideas are guiding the Sino- Japanese public diplomacy in details. Confucianism influences both of the two countries, so many similarities can be found in their cultures. These similarities bring intimacy that helps to promote understanding and build friendship between Chinese and Japanese people.However, Confucianism has experienced a long period of localization in Japan, and some ideas has been developed and changed and finally became totally different from traditional Chinese Confucianism. These differences have caused some troubles in public diplomacy between the two countries. For these troubles, this dissertation is going to provide corresponding measures in Chapter 4.Generally speaking, Confucianism has brought more positive effects to public diplomacy between China and Japan, but we cannot ignore the problems it has caused.Confucianism will absolutely make more contributions for Sino-Japanese public diplomacy in the new period with the supports from two sides and the mutual understanding between the two countries.
