A Case Study Of Community Care For The Home-Based Aged In Shajing District, Shenzhen City

Ageing problem nowadays has become a global challenge, and the situation in China is even worse. There are 3 general ways of pension system in China now: At-home Supporting, Nursing Agency and Community-base Home Caring Service. Each of them has certain limitation and disadvantage within the aspect of Family structure, Basic national conditions or International experience. Under this background, the Shenzhen Shajing district government promoted an improved pension model which is based on the Community-base Home Caring Service. This Shajing pension model combines the advantage of both Home-caring and Nursing Center, developing an innovating way of ‘Enjoying professional service in caring center without leaving family members and community’. The Shajing Model is popular among the district residents for its flexibility and convenience. In this thesis, the Shajing Pension Model will be fully analyzed from aspects of theory and practice.The thesis is composed by four parts:Part I: introduction, including the background and significance, reviewing of literature and theories, the research mentality and the method, comparing several domestic pension models. Part II: statistical analysis of the elderly population status of Shajing, introduced the basic situation of the pension model in this district. Explaining the innovation way for the aged centralized community is expounded, and the investigation of the Shajing Street elderly pension willingness and demand. Part III : based on the analysis of the feasibility of Shajing practice centralized community pension and basic conditions, and the Shajing apartments for the elderly in implementation of the actua l investigation, interviewed relevant department cadres and the elderly, families, a comprehensive understanding of the parties to the Shajing mode evaluation, innovated the new model of ‘Leaving home without leaving community and family life’ for elderly. Part IV: summary and conclusion of aging problems in Shajing street, and analyzed the detailed reasons of the Shajing model, combining the experience of international solutions, providing the policy suggestions and method of promotion plan for this unique pension model of elderly caring in Shajing District.
