Central Asia is located in the center of Eurasia. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Central Asia plays a vital role in the games among the major powers, for its strategic status in politics. Russia, because of its historical and geographical relationship with this area,has important strategic interest in this area. Russia has taken all kinds of international organization and has taken various measures to follow the “integration†foreign policy in Central Asia, in order to gain control over this area in a long term and establish security buffer area which will be beneficial to its own security.This paper mainly focuses on Russia’s Central Asia diplomacy, trying to analyze the difficulties and challenges Russia has faced. It consists of six parts: the first part is an introduction, which specifies the background of the present study, the research questions and methods through which the questions are answered, and the significance of the study. The second part analyze the history of Russia’s Central Asia diplomacy.This part take an overall review of the formation and development of Russia’s Central Asia diplomacy in different stages,analyzing the background,object,measures,influences of that policy,to reveal the nature and characteristics of it. The third part focus on the reason of Russia’s Central Asia diplomacy,mainly analyzing Central Asia’s importance in global geopolitics and economy,the strategic interest of Russia in this region,to explain the importance of Central Asia to Russia, i.e. the reason of Russia’s Central Asia diplomacy.The fourth part centers on the path for the implementation of Russia’s Central Asia diplomacy. It analyzes the measures that Russia can take to implement its diplomatic policies from various aspects,such as politics, economy, energy, assistance system, non-traditional security and so on.The fifth part mainly analyzing the difficulties and challenges of Russia’s Central Asia diplomacy from various aspects, such as Russia, Central Asian countries, domestic situations, international situations and so on.The last part is conclusion, based on existing analyses, making an overall evaluation and comment and predicting its future.This paper deeply analyzed Russia’s diplomacy in different periods, its objectives, contents, features and influences, in pursuit of revealing its diplomatic features and principles. Meanwhile, it also seeks answers for four questions: firstly, what is the history of Russia’s Central Asia diplomacy ? Secondly, what diplomatic strategies Russia adopts on the aspects of cognition, interests and methods? Thirdly, what diplomatic difficulties and challenges Russia will face in the future?
