During the1990s in twentieth century, according to many problems that leading by excessively specialized higher education in most universities of our country, the Department of Higher Education decided to develop the cultural quality education in Chinese universities and colleges. The Department of Higher Education issued an official document in 1998 named Several Suggestions about Strengthen the Cultural Quality Education. It said, the culture quality education should be implemented through regular curriculum and elective curriculum. Then, the cultural quality education was implemented in universities, and it became a part of university curriculum system. Today this reformation still lasts.Research universities own completed discipline categories, first-rate teachers, high quality students, diversified educational environment and deep academic atmosphere, all these advantages enable universities develop high quality curriculum of cultural quality education. Moreover, the educational aims and duties that research universities hold also required research universities to provide higher level curriculum. Cultural quality education curriculum has implemented for more than ten years, what achievement has the curriculum achieved? What problems did research universities encountered during curriculum implementing? This paper try to study these questions.The study method this paper used were quantitative method, which included questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire targeted to the students of Tsinghua University, Hua zhong University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University. The sample was selected form sophomore and junior. During all sophomore and junior, we selected 210 students from each universities. People we interviewed were administrators who are responsible for cultural quality education curriculum’s administration and teachers who are responsible for cultural quality education curriculum’s teaching.Form the study we find that the cultural quality education curriculum has obtained obviously achievement:cultural quality education curriculum enlarged students’ knowledge range, cultural quality education curriculum promoted students’ humanity quality, universities had known the significance of cultural quality education curriculum more deeply, the structure of cultural quality education curriculum was optimized. From the study we also find that there are many problems in cultural quality education curriculum:students still don’t understand the implication of cultural quality education, and don’t have enough enthusiasm in learning, universities and teachers don’t understand the goals of cultural quality education curriculum exactly, the teaching methods of cultural quality education curriculum are inflexible, the teachers don’t have enough motivation in teaching, curriculum evaluation is neglected, textbooks of cultural quality education curriculum are lacking seriously and so on.This dissertation sumed up some features of cultural quality education curriculum that the Research universities own, and proposed some solutions:(1)the research universities should set out cultural quality education curriculum’goals according to one’s tradition of school, (2) the research universities should build cultural quality education curriculum and adjust the curriculum structure, (3)the research universities should strength motivational methods to teachers, (4)the teachers should adopt depth teaching, enhance learning requirement, (5) the curriculum evaluation should be valued and teaching evaluation should allow experts’participation, (6) the research universities should organize experts to write textbooks.
