Along with continuous development of our society and economy as well asconstantly deepening educational reform, higher education comes in a period of rapiddevelopment and university students’ management work has entered a new stage.Facing increased number of students after the recruit enlargement in recent years anddramatic changes of characteristics of students, traditional students’ managementmodel has been difficult to adapt to the needs of the development of new situations, sonew perspectives must be adopted.This thesis defines the core concept involved, and establishes the logical startingpoint of research. Human nature assumption theory, leadership’ life cycle theory, andthe theory of student development are discussed. Besides, principle of subjectivity,leading principle, difference principle and specialization principle should be graspedto construct the management mode. Changes and comparison of the managementmodes of university students between China and America is described. Combinedwith the history of student management, differences between two countries in themanagement of students are discussed. It turns to the comparisons of managementmodes in different types of universities, which concludes differences of the studentmanagement model choice, discrepancies of the implementation of managementmodes and comparisons of advantages and disadvantages among research universities,teaching research universities and teaching universities. Functions of the new modelof student management in universities are analyzed, and characteristics and keyfactors of a new student management model are elaborated.Building a new management mode of university students is a systematic project.Universities need to improve and perfect the student management mode constantlyaccording to their own characteristics, in order to adapt to the needs of thedevelopment of society and higher education. The new management mode ofuniversity students is put forward, to provide references for future managementpractices.
