With the pace of the new curriculum reform in China, the teaching ability of Middleschool English teaching has been changed profoundly, which requires teachers haveenough ability to face the opportunities and challenges; English teachers’ teaching abilityalso changes correspondingly. As novice English teachers, you should actively adapt tothe trend of reform, solve the problems and challenges at the beginning. Based on theanalysis of previous research, the author found that Education in the middle schoolEnglish teaching, especially the novice English teacher has faced many problems in theearly stage. However, the related research about English teachers’ teaching ability is afew. Novice English teachers’ teaching ability should be adapted to the tend of the latestEnglish teaching reform. Now there is a hot problem how should novice teachers teach inthe class. What teaching abilities novice English teachers should have in Englishcurriculum reform? Based on the previous studies, this survey, applying investigationinventory, questionnaires and lecture record explores the condition of middle schoolnovice English teachers’s teaching ability in secondary school of the northern ShaanxiProvince.The author selected novice English teachers in secondary school of Yanan city andYulin city, from6middle school. The author did the questionnaires among30subjects,and then made lesson records among6of subjects. After that, interviewed some of thesubjects.The results showed that some points as follows. First,10%of novice Englishteacher has master degree in secondary school of the northern Shaanxi Province, andmore than85%of them are female, most teachers have a great deal of interest andpatience in English teaching. Second, the current situation of English teachers’ teachingability is that most of novice English teachers can play a great role in English teaching, they can actively communicate with their students, adapt to the environment easily, anduse the modern technology in teaching positively. At the same time, They also have goodability in teaching design.However, there are also some problems: First, they have problems on blackboardwriting, the organized language ability in the classroom, target language ability used forasking problems. The problems of blackboard writing and grammar error are the mostprominent; Second, they have the problem in teaching management; Third, thecomprehension of English teachers’ teaching ability is another problem; Fourth, the mainproblem is that teachers encounter with challenge of teaching skills and experience.Based on these facts, The author has given some reasonable measures to solve theseproblems. The government can make the policy to train novice English teachers’ teachingability and help novice English teachers who work secondary school improve skills.Managers can make the systematic training to improve novice teachers’ teaching ability.Last but not least, the government’s policy support and guidance can make the noviceEnglish teacher work easily. And it can help the novice English teachers turn to expertteacher positively and steadily. Schools should take measures to solve the problems andsupply a good environment for the novice English teachers to enter their roles naturally.
