Under the background of family planning and contemporary globalization, this research aims at exploring the adaptation problem of only-child empty nest family. In this study, I select the one-child empty-nesters in Guangzhou to further this widespread problem. This study utilizes case description and data analysis to describe the following aspects: the basic situation on the empty nesters and the nest syndrome, the adaptation approaches for the empty nest syndrome, as well as the consequences to the adaption of the empty nest syndrome. In addition, this survey makes a dialogue with traditional family relationship and the theory of “the individualization of Chinese society”、“individualized family” from a macro perspective, showing the changes within the family relationships, the significance of the individualization in the problem of empty nesters and the diversity of current family structure in today’s urbanization era.
