University counselors refer to the ones who organize and actualize university’mentality and daily affairs.How to select and build a high level of universitycounselors is the key to strengthen and improve college students’ ideological andpolitical education and the key to healthy growth in harmony. In recent years, thecompetency theory gradually uses in education management system. But now thegeneral-competency-model is too general and abstract, can not achieve a good matchwith "people-position-organization". The research is on the basis of the team buildingtheory about university counselors,which is synthesized from domestic and foreignstudy.According to the principle of " people-position-organization ", the author setexample of Quanzhou Normal University, to gather data by using literaturestudy,behavioral event interview, questionnaire survey and the other methods,applying explore factor analysis,variance analysis,correlation analysis,regressionanalysis and so on to the statistical analysis of data.Compiling university counselors’competence questionnaire,is to design the counselor competency model,discuss therelationship between competence and personality of university counselors.The major findings of this study are as follows:1. The competency job quality model of Quanzhou Normal University counselorsis a four-dimensional–structure, including moral qualities, professional qualities,work execution, and self-cultivation. There are ten elements: work style,communication skills, the ability to guide, crisis disposal consciousness, learningability, analytical ability, work attitude, ideological character, psychological qualities,interpersonal relationships.2. There was no significant difference in the overall level of competency in genderdimension. Gender is not significant factors affecting the level of universitycounselors’ competence. But there are significant differences between different sexesin the ability to guide and work attitude, and the two factors about female counselorsare better than male counselors’.3. The college counselors of working time in3years (including3years) have the highest overall level of competency, and there was a low level of competency in3years to5years (including5years).4. Professional qualities and work execution of assistant counselors are better thanlecturer counselors, but moral qualities and self-cultivation of the lecturer counselorsare higher than the assistant counselors.5. Moral qualities and professional qualities of liberal arts counselors are betterthan science counselors,but the science counselors are higher than liberal artscounselors in work execution and self-cultivation.6. There are significant differences between different sexes in conscientiousnessand openness personality factors. The conscientiousness and openness personalityfactors of male counselors are better than female counselors.7. In addition there are significant differences in openness personality factors, theremaining personality factors are not significant difference in the matter of age, theopenness of counselors under25years old is better than26years old to30years oldand31years old to35years old.8. Compared to the assistant counselors and the lecturer counselors, there are moreopenness, conscientiousness and agreeableness factors about lecturer counselors. Atthe same time, the lower neuroticism scores and higher extraversion scores lead toemotions more stable. Generally, the degree of happiness and satisfaction of life willbe higher.9. Conscientiousness is the best indicator for predicting the potential universitycounselors competence and the predictive effect of agreeableness is also significant....
