The essential connotation of homework is that homework includes all activities that studentsare engaged in in their spare time, which can promote their physical and mental perfectiondevelopment. Currently, the social cries of decreasing the “burden” of homework are increasinglyhigh, but some parents have been putting weight on homework. Buying counseling books,collecting practice tests, inviting tutors, paying tutorial classes for children or tutoring thehomework assigned by school not only make the parents so busy but also cause some familycontradictory issues, such as tense parent-child relationships, children’ tired of studying,unimproved achievements and son on. Parents wonder and complain about the problems of theirhomework management which is thought to be good for their children. The root cause of theirproblems is that the management pays attention to intellectual education but ignores the moraleducation. Based on previous researches on homework management, family education and parentalethical concern and combining the analysis of the lack of parental ethical concern about homeworkmanagement and its causes, this study explores the parental ethical concern wisdom abouthomework management.This study is divided into the following four parts:The first part is the introduction. It describes the causes of this study, gives the definitions ofhomework, parental ethical concern and other core concepts as well as reviews the relevantliteratures and points out the significance and methods of the research.The second part researches and elaborates the theories of parental homework management.First, it points out that the parents should have three main functions managing homework. Thethree functions include improving the children’s academic performance, enhancing the children’sself-management ability and enhancing the parent-child relationship. Then it summarizes thespecific natures. Finally, it expresses the problem of lack of parental ethical concern abouthomework management according to the research and analysis of parents’ performances inhomework management.The third part is the status quo and problems of parental ethical concern about homeworkmanagement. Taking Ningbo city as an example, it inducts questionnaire survey and semi-open interviews about the parents of school children. Based on the findings and the analysis of thedemands of parents having different backgrounds, it represents the problems of lack of parentalethical concern about homework management. The problems are mainly that: the concept ofparental ethical concern is not strong; the parents are too utilitarian expecting too much; the parentssupervise too much in homework management and the divisions of parents responsibilities are toometiculous; the children’s life experience and social practice are ignored; the school education isnot enough to promote the students’ development.The fourth part studies the parental ethical concern wisdom about homework management.First, it describes the source of wisdom-the parents need to update their concepts of homeworkmanagement to determine correct management objectives. Then, it introduces the wiseperformance-using ways that can demonstrate the parental ethical concern wisdom abouthomework management. Finally, it gives parents a few suggestions. For example, the wise parentsshould manage homework timely, appropriately, moderately and insistently.
