In this study, we defined what shallow reading is. Shallow reading is a kind of reading whichdeveloped based on network reading, reading without meaningful processing. We put forward the“habituation shallow reading”. It is a kind reading when readers’ cognitive habits changed byshallow reading, readers can only read Web pages in shallow reading model. We carry out questionnaires in Ningbo University. According to the results of thequestionnaire, readers was divided into habituation shallow readers and non-habituation shallowreaders. We used the method of eye movement to analysis their characteristics of fixation duration, fixation count, and visit duration. We find that habituation shallow readers read fast and have longsaccadic amplitude. Compared with the non-habituation shallow reader, they read with lesscognitive resources, less willing to read more carefully, stay on the understanding of words, haveno understanding of the whole. We think it is because habituation shallow readers’ cognitive habits is changed by shallowreading, which make them reading without meaningful processing.Based on the above analysis, we proposed a method of correction of college students’habituation shallow reading from the perspective of students, the environment, web page, which isto improve students’ reading ability, encourage the writing, so that students can change read modelbetween shallow reading and non-shallow reading.
