Ideological and political theory courses are the main channels of ideologicaland political education of university students, also the major route by which helpuniversity students to set up correct world outlook, life outlook and values, and theyreflect the essential requirements of socialist universities. As science andengineering universities are the important constituent parts of socialist universities,the students of sciences and engineering are the important parts of the socialistcollege students. It is of great significance that to strengthen and improve the classteaching work of ideological and political theory courses of science and engineeringuniversities.This paper consists of four parts: the first part will elaborate the socialbackground, historical experience and realistic significance of the research thatcarrying out ideological and politics theory classes in the science and engineeringuniversities. The research background are the transformation of the social cultural inour country and the new development of ideological and political education inuniversities, then, based on the review of the ideological and political educationschemes, which were implemented after the founding of New China, and expoundits realistic significance in combination with social practice:firstly, is benefit topromote the development of socialist advanced culture, whose core is socialist corevalue system; secondly, is benefit to construct science and engineering universities’campus culture; Thirdly, is benefit to promote the all-round development of thequalities of science and engineering college students, so as to satisfy the socialdemand for the interdisciplinary talents.The second part will analyze the current situation and its cause of theideological and politics theory classes in the science and engineering universities. Atfirst, I will make a questionnaire survey to the freshmen and sophomores in TianjinUniversity, and summarize the current situation of ideological and political theorycourses in the science and engineering universities from the aspects that students’quality, teaching process, teaching methods, teacher quality, teaching environmentand the practice; then, I will analyze the causes which include two factors, historicalreason, mainly is the adjustment and reform of university faculty in the50’s ofChina, and practical reasons, mainly deals with the subject of education quality, education process and education environment, etc.The thirdly part will discuss the measures about how to improve the teaching ofideological and political theory courses in the science and engineering universities.Firstly, from the links of the content, process, and teaching evaluation of teachingmanagement, improve the teaching management level; Secondly, improve theteaching environment by strengthening the construction of campus environment andcontrolling the influence of peer group environment; Thirdly, promote disciplineconstruction by firming the position of Marxist and perfecting and improvingteaching methods; Fourth, promote the overall quality of educators in accordancewith the development ideas of professionalization and specialization.The fourth part will study the development of teaching work of ideological andpolitical education courses in science and engineering universities. At first, attemptto make a qualitative analysis of the subjects, conditions, contents and effects ofnetwork ideological and political education in science and engineering universities;then, elaborate the positive meanings of network ideological and political educationin science and engineering universities; at last, discuss the measures to improve theclass teaching from the prospect of the combination of network ideological andpolitical education and class ideological and political education.
