The Han Dynasty stone relief is a particular artistic expression in Chinese history, condenses the ancients’ painstaking efforts and wisdom and offers an important reference for studying on the Han dynasty culture. There are a lot of martial arts activities recorded in the Han Dynasty stone relieves. By studying on the Han Dynasty stone relief associated with martial arts activities in Xuzhou, we can more fully understand the appearance of Xuzhou martial arts activities, and it is more useful to the Chinese martial arts history and the martial arts activities culture in Xuzhou.This paper puts the Han Dynasty stone relief associated with martial arts activities in Xuzhou as the research object. Based on a comprehensive collection of the stone relief’s image data of martial arts activities in Xuzhou and historical data, it uses various research methods, such as the method of literature, field investigation and interdisciplinary method, to attempt to classify and research on the Han Dynasty stone relief associated with martial arts activities in Xuzhou. The following conclusions can be draw:the Han Dynasty stone relief associated with martial arts activities in Xuzhou are mainly divided into six genres:tournament figure, training figure, entertainment figure, arsenal figure, weight training figure and courage training figure. From the classification image, the basic action of Han Dynasty martial arts activities in Xuzhou can be summarized exercises, equipment practice and fighting practice. Exercises includes body type and step type. Body type can be divided into the upper body bending forward, backward and turning action while step type can be divided into horse stance, kneeling stance, seated stance and lunge stance. Equipment practice action includes the bow, crossbow, sword, knives, halberd, spear and so on. Fighting practice action runs barehanded fights, both barehanded fights and fights with weapons, fights with weapons.This paper attempts to make a classification and comprehensive study of the Han Dynasty stone relief associated with martial arts activities in Xuzhou, trying to restore the overall appearance of the Han Dynasty martial arts activities in Xuzhou, to explore the specific content. It will enrich the study of Xuzhou martial arts history.
