With the continuous improvement of Chinese economic development andinternational status, the relationship between China and the world is getting closer,more and more countries set up Chinese language courses. In recent years, Chineselanguage teaching in Latin America has also been developing rapidly. In Colombia,some schools are already set up the Chinese lessons as a required course.About Chinese language teaching, the importance of Chinese characters has beenrecognized by experts and scholars, the Chinese characters is the most difficult part oflearning Chinese and it’s also the focus. However, due to the characteristics ofChinese characters themselves, and the teaching methods of Chinese characters havenot formed a complete system yet, it’s very difficult for Chinese learners to learnChinese characters, and the characters is the bottleneck of learning Chinese.During the internship in Montessori British School in Colombia, I did someresearch about the problems of the Colombia high school students learning Chinesecharacters. My purpose is to find the proper way about teaching characters to the localstudents, to help them study the Chinese characters more favorably and in the meantime, I wish to make contribution to Chinese teaching and the spreading of Chinese.I collected a lot of test paper and homework of my students during my field work,identified the errors of Chinese characters writing and analyzed the causes of theerrors. With the comparison of the different methods of teaching Chinese characters, Ihave chosen800Chinese characters from the first class in HSK as a sample topractice. My objective is to find out the appropriate way about teaching characters,and try to change the situation that”attaches more value to speaking than writing”.This paper includes four chapters: ChapterⅠ, Introduction. It describes the reasonwhy I chose this topic for my essay, and also introduces the research status indomestic and the broad. At the same time, I introduce the Research and the Methodsof Research. I have listed the contents which I studied in the research and also thespecific methods I used in the process of the research. Chapter Ⅱ, the Error Analysisof Chinese Character Writing. In this chapter, I summed up the types of the writingerrors in three different aspects, and also analyse the different causes for these errors.ChapterⅢ, the Strategies of Teaching Chinese Characters to Colombia High SchoolStudents. This chapter is the main one, I have listed and analyzed the Chinesecharacter teaching methods which are popular in China and other countries, combined with the characteristics of high school students in Colombia, I put forward my ownteaching methods and ideas. ChapterⅣ,Summary. I summed up my whole ideas inthis essay.Hope my research would not only offer reference for other fellow members of thesame profession, but also be helpful in relieving Colombia students of their difficultyin Chinese characters study, to cultivate their interests and attract more students tostudy Chinese pleased.
