Vocational quality is the reflecting of individual personality traits in the field ofprofessional, is a part of psychological quality, and is the internal and stability personality traits.Vocational quality is an important part in engaging occupational. And there are some differentrequirements of professional for different occupation. Because of the defects in physical and mentaldevelopment, the intelligence of moderate mentally retarded students is significantly lower thannormal children. The special school has done some special trainings for the students during theperiod of vocational education, and they can do some work of mechanical and repletion. But there isstill poor vocational quality in mentally retarded students’ reality work. Often, it is hard for them toadapt to the occupation, so that they are fired by employers.The research focuses on cultivating the vocational quality of moderate mentally retarded students.It will discuss how to cultivate the students’ vocational quality by using the available resources, theeffects in improving the students’ professional adaption of training about vocational quality, and thefacts that affect develop the vocational quality. Through investigating the35graduated moderatementally retarded students, founding their vocational quality was poor in adapting occupation. Tohelp the students adapt the society better, the research selects12moderate mentally retardedgraduating students as the object of study, to carry out vocational quality education from thebreakthrough point of problems on vocational quality. In the research, the goal of vocational qualityis to develop the moderate mentally retarded students’ obedience, perseverance, initiative,cooperative and independence. The research makes full use of the available educational resourcesand relies on occupation training to develop the students’ vocational quality from three aspects. Theyare: the imitative learning of occupation, the transitional practice of community work, the practice ofoff-campus employer. After nearly40weeks of training for the objects of study, the school hasevaluated their vocational quality four times, the results are: the moderate mentally retard studentsmade great progress in the first three vocational quality evaluations, there was no big difference on grade between the third time and the forth. Through tracking the professional adaption situation afterthe object of study graduating,11students graduated from school,9students got work, and thepercentage of employment was82%. During6months of adaptation,78%mentally retardedstudents’ professional adaptability was satisfied by the employers. Two of them quit their jobbecause they could not adapt the management of the factory, and the other seven students haveadapted and would be go on work. Their percentage of maintain work is78%. Through the actionresearch to the object of study for a year and a half, founding that it was effective and feasible topromote the moderate mentally retarded students’ vocational quality by the way of the research. Andthe research also found that the students themselves, family, education, society and other factorsaffect the cultivation of the students’ vocational quality.
