During the teaching of Chinese in high school, continuous improving students’ abilityof reading and writing becomes a common pursuit of every Chinese teacher. But it is a factthat reading and writing sometimes can be highly connected, while in other times, theymay merely appear connected or even can be totally separated. Reading and writing are themost important elements of Chinese teaching, but they also have perplexed most Chineseteachers for a long time.This paper is discussed in the context of various drawbacks existing in the presentsituation of high school teaching of reading and writing. It firstly classifies and definesmodel texts in the sense of category, mainly including current Chinese teaching textbooksof Jiangsu edition, thematic reading texts from school-based teaching textbooks, beautifularticles from examination system, and compilations of students’ compositions. At the sametime, a relevant analysis is made on the values of language,conceiving and sentiment fromthese model texts. Besides, from the preparatory period to the executive period, a detailedstrategic study is conducted on model text reading which is based on promotingcomposition teaching. Meanwhile, effects are analyzed through the survey of students’sentiments about model text reading. Lastly, besides the analysis of teachers’ leadingbehaviors, the chapter of the model writing guidance of model texts puts more weight onintroducing measures of composition guidance.
