In modern society, scientific literacy has become necessary personal accomplishment.Scientific literacy level is not only the necessary of the individual development but alsocan affect the social progress and national sustainable development。With the continuous development of the national economy, it is lacking in advancedmanufacturing and modern service skilled professionals. Students in higher vocationalcolleges is the main force in the future national construction so the scientific literacy ofstudents levels on the future of the national human resources obviously has great influenceand higher vocational education has become the main line of training applied talents.Chinese Research on the science literacy since1989for the first time to investigatecivic literacy, has made remarkable progress and achievement. But the research history ofscientific literacy is relatively short and the research mode mostly imitate the west, whichmade the practice guidance of scientific literacy theory not perfect and meticulous research,the concept and localization not enough. Most of the research objects are to all citizens,compulsory education and college students. There are few scholars research in the field ofoccupation school students’ scientific literacy. It basically belongs to the blank. We shouldtry to pay more attention to this current situation.This paper analyzes the domestic and foreign related theory on scientific literacy. Italso makes sure the elements of scientific literacy and refers the main means to improvethe scientific literacy of science and Education--the definition and history. Based on theempirical research, investigation and interview, we confirmed that the higher vocationalstudents have certain scientific literacy. But compared with the university students, theyalso have deficiencies. By the study, we find out the elements of environmental factorswhich affects the higher vocational students’ scientific literacy.In view of this situation, we put forward the importance and the principle of how toimprove students’ scientific literacy. By creating a good environment to cultivate scientific literacy, we can comprehensively promote the curriculum reform process, enhance theeffectiveness of classroom teaching, establish the concept of innovation, strengthen theconstruction of teaching staff, the implementation of production study researchcombination of educating people road, realize the target of improving the scientificliteracy.The theoretical and empirical research on this topic have the reference function inperfecting the theoretical system of scientific literacy and improving the practicalapplication effect of the scientific literacy theory. There are of great significance inpromoting the development of students’ comprehensive quality and improving the state ofthe future production of human resources.
