The period of Republican China was not only the significant elementboosting the level of Chinese education to the modern, but the critical perioddeveloped the education of Chinese language. To comprehend the languageeducation of Republican China would help us reexamining traditional oflanguage education, which promotes us to shoulder the obligation ofLanguage Subject endowed by destiny. Writing is intuitively reflect thestudents’ language ability and comprehensive literacy. Based on studying onthe composition teaching of Republican Primary School, and then examinethe problems of composition teaching of Contemporary Primary School, inorder to provide some reference and inspiration.Based on consulting the precious literature and historical materials,composition teaching of Republican Primary School was set as the main topicof the dissertation which would be divided into four sections. First sectionwould discuss the philosophy and fundamental principals of compositionteaching during the period of Republican China. To explore the classroomteaching of composition would be the objective of second section, while thirdsection would exhibit the extracurricular practice and guidance ofcomposition educated in primary school. Last section were in charge ofresearching the strength, which were belong to composition teaching duringRepublic China, could be applied to modern education of composition. Mostcontent of course and teaching methods, which were implemented bycomposition teaching during Republican China, were practical with obviouscharacters; meanwhile, these teaching experience were worth to learn andconsult in modern education. Teaching philosophy and fundamental principleswhich implemented by composition teaching during Republican Chinaemphasized to accumulate elementary knowledge, to unify the expression ofdaily writing and speaking in same way, and to advocate the “life education”and method guidance. Relevant methods and principles also would be applied to each section, which involved topic deciding, process of guidance andmodification, of classroom composition educating. In addition, compositionteaching of Republican primary school concentrated on extracurriculartraining, for illustrate, diary, reading notes, reports on current event,competition of presentation and drama performance were the regularafter-class activities of extracurricular training. According to analyzing andsummarizing the precious literature of composition teaching duringRepublican China, the author considered that the experience, such as insistingthe writing attitude involved either described real life or pursued the honestand sincere, initiating teaching ideas focused on strengthen foundation anddeveloped interests, emphasized teaching principles which unified theexpression of writing and speaking, and encouraged teaching extension thatimplemented situation simulation training or extracurricular education,achieved from the Republican composition teaching were worth us to exploreand search the valuable essence which would be learned and applied tomodern language education.
