As a special text, Music textbook is not only an important teaching tool, but also an important carrier to convey ideas. This paper takes primary school music textbooks in the Republic of China Era (1912-1937) as the research object, comprehensively analyze the textbook writing and provide practical reference for contemporary music textbook transformation.Primary music textbook in the Republic of China Era has experienced the development of the special, it changes from the late Qing dynasty "lyric songs set" into early Republic of China "singing", in early Republic of China singing "music set" into "music textbooks" in period of late Republic of China. In the process of the transformation, the editor always sticks to the "wholesale westernization, west-oriented" and "renaissance and elegance, saving the quintessence". Attaching great importance to the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture and studying western music at the same time. It displays in:first, it inherits the tradition of Confucian harmony ideology to influence Chinese. Such as music textbooks published in the early Republic of China embodies the thought of "open intelligence, cultivate the talent"; second, writing of textbook absorbs the western aesthetic thought, emphasis on utilitarianism of music in the textbook of. At the same time, it emphasizes the regression of education subject with children centered; at last, the compilation of textbook takes all-round development of children as the ultimate goal. The music textbook written mode gives enlightenment for contemporary music textbooks writing.This research takes the research idea of historical research and practical research, the combination of vertical analysis and horizontal comparison, the combination of system analysis and in-depth study. On the basis of carding textbook materials at various stages during the period of the Republic of China, it analyze in elementary music textbook writing background, evolution and development during the period of the Republic of China.
