With the development of curriculum reform, the policy of “various versions for oneoutline” has propelled multiple improvements for English teaching material. Each version oftextbook has its own features. Each region and school has different choice of versions. How toselect the "ideal" teaching material? Is the choice of teaching material scientific, reasonable?Do the teachers and students recognize and satisfy the teaching material? Do the teachingrequirements in the teaching materials adapt to school teachers, resource equipment and localeconomic development? Are there some problems in the process of use? Do the teachingmaterials appropriate to the regional differences? At the same time, whether the teachingmaterial appropriate or not directly related to the English curriculum standard implementationand the effect of the teaching quality, etc. Therefore, it is necessary for us to makeappropriateness evaluation on teaching materials.Based on this, this study aims at the appropriateness of junior middle school Englishteaching materials. This research states two aspects of appropriateness. On one hand, itmainly talks about the perspective of theory construction. There are five aspects: theappropriateness of teaching target, the appropriateness of emotional attitude orientation andcultural consciousness, the appropriateness of textbook selection, the appropriateness of thestructure and the appropriateness of methods. On the other hand, recognize the teachers andstudents’ awareness and understanding of teaching materials appropriateness from theperspective of actual investigation. Based on the research, this paper puts forward relevantsuggestions of compiling textbooks.This paper consists of seven parts: Chapter1, introduction. This part elaborates thebackground, objective, purpose, research methodology and design. Chapter2,“relevantconcepts”. It examines the core concepts relevant to this research, including teaching material,junior middle school English teaching material, appropriateness, evaluation of teachingmaterial appropriateness etc. Chapter3, literature review. It emphasizes the overviews ofteaching material evaluation, teaching material of middle school, textbook appropriatenessevaluation. Chapter4, dimensional analysis of teaching material appropriateness. This partstates the appropriateness from objective, affective attitude and cultural consciousness, content selection, teaching material structure, implementation, etc. Chapter5, empiricalresearch. This part includes the investigation and analysis of teaching materialappropriateness in Haikou. Chapter6, suggestion. It provides the proposal based on the survey.Chapter7, conclusion. It summarizes the entire research.
