Art( now named painting and handwork) course as part of the curriculum system in mental retardation school and plays an important role for the intellectually disabled children’s physical and mental development. Therefore, Art Textbook became one of the most important parts to influence the teaching quality. But due to Chinese special education started late,compared to ordinary school’ textbook research, the research of mental retardation school is less, especially in art teaching material is deficient, so this study will use the methods of literature, text analysis and interview to analysis PEP senior art teaching material of published in 1993 in theory and practice, to learn more about using art teaching material’s situation of schools for mental retardation and analyses the reason of the issues, to proposed some new improvements, to provide a evidence for the research of art teaching material of mental retardation school.This research is divided into five chapters:The first chapter, introduction. Firstly, proposed selected topic basis.Secondly,define the relative concepts of the teaching materials,art teaching material,schools for mental retardation,textbook suitability. Finally,to analysis of the domestic and oversea research in relevant literature.The second chapter, the condition of PEP senior art teaching material of mental retardation school in1993.Firstly,to analysis the condition of content topic.Secondly,to analysis the condition of activity type. Finally,to analysis the condition of organization form.The third chapter, the reflection of the target readership: the investigate of PEP sen- ior art teaching material suitability of mental retardation school.Firstly,to investigate the situation of using art teaching materials.Secondly,to investigate the teachers and students’ expectation to the teaching material.Finally,to investigation the actual issue of teaching content.The fourth chapter, the problems of PEP senior art teaching material of mental retardation school.Through the analysis textbook and investigate teaching material appropriateness, summed up the problems of the teaching material in mental retardation school.The fifth chapter, the suggestions of develop senior art teaching materials of mental retardation school. On the one hand, put forward the elements and principles of organization art teaching material, in order to lay a theoretical basis of arrange teaching materials.On the other hand,through the problems in PEP senior art teaching materials,to proposed strategies of improve senior art teaching materials.
