In recent years, more attention has been paid to the student-centered teaching method to cultivatestudents’ self-learning ability, which is reflected in the New Curriculum. In the actual teaching, this requiresteachers to change traditional teaching mode, to focus on the needs of students, to optimize students’learning styles, and to stimulate students’ interest in learning. At the same time, it requires the change in therole of teachers. The subject of this research is Grade One students from No.2High School in Xinxiangcity. The author tries to explore whether the “Guided Learning Plan”(GLP) can achieve the effectiveteaching through theoretical analysis and teaching experiment. In China, the study of GLP can be traced back to the late nineteenth Century. GLP is written byteachers. Students use the GLP to cultivate the ability of autonomous learning, which promotes interactionbetween teachers and students. Meanwhile, teachers guide students to acquire the right knowledge. TheGLP emphasizes the dominant position of students, and the students are encouraged to combinecooperative learning, independent learning with exploratory learning. Therefore, in recent years, manyschools in the country began to use the GLP.This study, the author employs three methods to conduct the research, including the literature analysismethod, the interview method and the questionnaire method. Based on constructivism and humanistictheory, this paper conducts the actual teaching experiment on GLP. The results of research show that: as awhole, the GLP is good for students to study English. The GLP can enhance students’ awareness of activelearning, and help students develop good study habits, to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability, and improve the teaching efficiency in the classroom. However, in the whole teaching process, the GLP also has some disadvantages. For example, GLP isnot good for those students whose English level is not so good, therefore, the GLP cannot enhance theirself-confidence and enthusiasm, not to mention the ability to stimulate critical thinking and developcapability of autonomous learning. Under such circumstances, GLP has become a learning burden or a kindof exercise. It requires us to make a through inquiry to solve those disadvantages together.
