Xinjiang Minority College Students Of Xinjiang Local Ideological And Political Theory Course Education Research

Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region is an autonomous region of the People’sRepublic of China in the northwest of the country. It takes up about one sixth of thecountry’s territory and it is home to a number of ethnic groups. Due to the size and theethnic composition of this region, it is safe to say that the quality of people’sideological and political education is the key factor which directly affects China’sdevelopment and stability. As an important social group in Xinjiang, the ideologicaleducation for ethnic minority students of Xinjiang plays a key role in stabilizing,harmonizing and developing the region. Therefore, it is safe to say that the role oflocal-ideological education in universities of Xinjiang is irreplaceable and the objectof this education should be focused on ethnic minority college students. This thesismainly discusses the history of ideological and political theory courses in colleges anduniversities in Xinjiang, which includes three stages such as: embryonic period (from1949to the reform and open up), the establishment and development period (from1982to2004) and comprehensive period. Secondly, this thesis also discusses theunderstanding of ethnic minority students of Xinjiang toward the ideologicaleducation course. Through the survey, ethnic minority college students’ attitudetoward the course, their understanding of the content of the course and the teachingmethod and overall quality of the teacher of the course are found out. Besides, thesurvey also points out some problems in the course and provides several suggestionsto eventually improve the quality of ethnic minority college students’ ideological andpolitical theory courses in Xinjiang.
