Developing the teaching ability of young teachers in colleges and universities is the key to improving the quality of education. This research makes an investigation of the problem of young teachers’ teaching ability development---a case study of Zhejiang Normal University.It includes the understanding, the demand and the current situation of young teachers’teaching ability and the implementation of the work at school. The study finds that in terms of the understanding of teaching ability, most young teachers think it is very necessary to carry out the work of teachers’teaching ability in colleges and universities. At the same time, they are very willing to take part in it.In the aspect of the demand of teaching ability, different types of young teachers are different. In terms of the current situation of teaching ability, the overall teaching ability of the young teachers is good. However, it has obvious problem in instructional cognitive, instructional operation and instructional monitoring.In the aspect of the instructional cognitive, most young teacher can plan reasonable teaching objectives, but the ability to achieve it remains to be promoted. At the same time, some young teachers’the theories of education and teaching are weak, they are lack of instructional cognitive ability seriously. Thus, they need to study conditional knowledge such as pedagogy. psychology and educational technology. In terms of the current situation of instructional operation ability, the young teachers have strong ability to use modern information technology, but using multimedia inappropriately still exists. Lecture is the main teaching methods. The young teachers rarely interact with their students and the ability of classroom management is weak. As for instructional monitoring, most young teachers can reconsider after teaching timely, they have strong consciousness of monitoring their teaching behavior. However, the motivation to implementation is not sufficient. When the class is over, the young teachers rarely communicate with the students and they can not make use of the feedbacks from the students.According to the current situation of Zhejiang Normal University, the author thinks that in order to improve the young teachers’teaching ability,it should be done as following:①enewing the idea of training; attaching great importance to teachers’autonomy; inspiring the young teachers’teaching will.②Enriching the training content and form:Paying attention to the students’ aptitude, carrying out all kinds of training content and form according to the different demand of the young teachers.③Dividing the level of training:combining test with the training, carrying out the training in the basis of inspecting individual teacher’s teaching ability.④mproving the training mechanism:Paying attention to the integrity of training system, setting up school---college---eaching and research organization at the grass-roots level and emphasizing the training and the assessment of teachers and the support resources of teachers.
