The Chinese fever in United States has been heating up since the1990s, Chineselanguage in the United States has become the second foreign language after the Spanishlanguage. In2011,over5000American schools opened the Chinese language course. InEarly February2010,the bill had been passed in Oregon making it become the firstAmerican state, which promoted Chinese teaching into the classroom by passinglegislation.With the globalization of economy, education is rapidly becoming global. The IBcourse is a widespread international course, which has been implemented in144countries.The IB course includes three stages---the primary year programme, the middle yearprogramme, and the pre-university international diploma programme.In September2012,I went to the Portland State University Confucius Institute andworked there as a volunteer Chinese teacher of internship for ten months. I was assigned inThe International School of Portland which adopts the IB-PYP course. So I made aninvestigation about the PYP school project and the Chinese teaching. This investigationmainly includes “three elements of teaching Chinese” in Chinese Department of PortlandInternational School and the application and implementation of PYP programme inChinese teaching.
