As we all know, interest is the best teacher, the fundamental motivation for musiclearning, and the basis for students’ lifelong learning of music. Since theimplementation of music curriculum standards,“interest” has been fundamentallymotivating the learning of music. The school where I am working is situated at theurban fringe. Students from this area are uneven in quality, with poorly-educated basicmusical knowledge. This research focused on the cultivation of music interest of juniorschool students living in the urban fringe. By doing this research, it’s helpful for musicteachers to motivate the students’ learning enthusiasm during the teaching process,develop the students’ moral sentiment, achieve the aesthetic function of music, andimprove music teachers’ teaching level. Therefore, this research is of practicallysignificance.Three methods were involved in this research: Literature research, questionnaire andinterview. The literature research method was used to collect data and have an access torelevant research status at home and abroad. With the questionnaire and interviewmethods, randomized questionnaire surveys were carried out among musical teachersand first-year students of4junior middle schools of the urban fringe. Based on theresults of the questionnaire surveys, interviews with students and their parents wereconducted, to have a knowledge of the current situation of students’ musical interestcultivation and lay a foundation for subsequent researches.There were altogether four chapters related to the cultivation of students’ musicalinterest. Chapter1was composed of introduction, including research origin, researchobjectives, research significance, research method, definition of basic concepts andresearch status at home and abroad. In Chapter2, with questionnaire method,questionnaire surveys were conducted among musical teachers and first-year students of4junior middle schools, with the purpose of having an insight into the current situationof musical interest cultivation among junior middle school students in the urban fringeof S school area of E district, Guangzhou City. Chapter3made an analysis onquestionnaires, centering on analyzing major reasons affecting musical interestcultivation of junior middles school students of this region. Chapter4proposed corresponding countermeasures of cultivation in accordance with reasons analyzed inChapter3.
