With social functions of education, museums have unique culturalconnotations and qualities due to their own features. As perfect places for study forprimary and middle school students, they possess rich art resources which just make upstudents’ deficiencies in practical experiences about works of arts in primary and middleschools’ art education.Primary and middle school students are successors of cultures. Museum educationof arts may improve these students’ artistic accomplishments, promote the developmentof their multiple intelligences, and provide them with life-long learning methodsthrough teaching at these schools. How to construct models for museum education ofarts at primary and middle schools by effectively integrating museum resources withsuch schools’ education is one of important subjects for China’s museum education ofarts.This paper is composed of five parts. Part1firstly illustrates concepts aboutmuseums and museum education, respectively discussing categories and functions ofmuseums as well as concepts and characteristics of museum education. Part2makes anoverview of the research status of museum education in China and foreign countries,particularly introducing and clarifying museum education of arts, so as to specify basicsituation of contemporary museum education of arts. Focusing on describing andanalyzing status quo and problems of museum education of arts at primary and middleschools in China in detail, Part3clarifies the necessity for constructing models formuseum education of arts at primary and middle schools in China. Emphasizing theconstruction of models for museum education of arts at primary and middle schools, Part4comprehensively introduces the models in detail based on theoretical foundations,components, execution procedures, assessment systems and operation mechanisms. Bydepicting principles, strategies and cases of applying models for museum education ofarts at primary and middle schools, Part5proves effectiveness of such models.By examining theories pertinent to museum education of arts at primary andmiddle schools, this paper constructs a model for corresponding education for thepurpose of providing references for carrying out museum education of arts at primaryand middle schools in China.
