Based on the spirit of “extensively using various off-campus curriculum resources and developing a variety of fine arts education activities” specified in Fine Arts Curriculum Standards for Ordinary High Schools issued by the Ministry of Education in 2010, and combined with the experiences of providing volunteer service and interviews in Pingyuan Museum for a long time, after investigation and analysis we believe Pingyuan Museum is a rare off-campus arts resource for arts teaching in high schools because it is rich in arts collection with full range and excellent quality. Based on questionnaire surveys conducted among junior high school students from 10 schools in the city or in nearby rural areas of Xinxiang and interviews with arts teachers in such schools, combining with the investigation into the of museum resources use by local junior high schools at present through interview with the museum staffs, we found although the museum undertakes functions of education and obligations of social service, it is still weak in developing and using the arts resources in Pingyuan Museum for middle schools in arts teaching in Xinxiang City currently. Therefore, starting from the developable calligraphy and paintings, bronze ware, ceramics and other arts teaching related resources for middle schools collected in the museum, this paper emphasizes the views on using the calligraphy and painting collection resources to cultivate students’ aesthetic quality, using bronze ware collection resources to stimulate students’ innovative consciousness, using ceramic collection resources to improve students’ operational ability and other methods through teaching practice; and in accordance with the teaching practice puts forward principles of being integral, operable, scientific, visual and so on as required for development and utilization of the arts resources in the museum, and along with the teaching practice, this paper also raises questions to be further considered in the future teaching. We hope this paper can provide profits and references for the masses of arts teachers.
