The Relationship Among Junior School Students, Hope, Coping Style And Friendship Quality

Hope, which is gaining the popularity in the field of positivepsychology, has also been proved by domestic and abroad researches tohave a significant impact on blooming life. This study aims at revealingthe relationship and characteristics of hope, coping style and friendshipquality， accumulating evidences for the improvement of interpersonalrelationship, personality and socialization in middle schools. Subjectsh’ave been given three questionnaires: Childrens Hope Scale, Coping StyleScale for Middle School Students and Friendship Quality Scale. Theresults demonstrate that:(1)Students’ hope reach the level of average and their pathwaysthinking is better than agency thinking. There is significant differenceof hope among students in urban/suburban schools, with/without shanghairesidency. That also differs in the view of their parents’ jobs andeducational backgrounds.(2)Students prefer to cope with problem than cope with emotion.Coping styles have significant difference among students inurban/suburban schools, with/without shanghai residency, differentgrades and their parents’ jobs and educational backgrounds. (3)Friendship quality has significant difference among students inurban/suburban schools, different grades and their parents，jobs andeducational backgrounds.(4)Hope is positive correlated#ith friendship quality. The agency-thinking and pathways thinking dimension of hope are positive correlatedwith the positive dimension of friendship quality, and are correlatedwith the negative dimension of friendship quality. Hope is positivecorrelated with coping style, the agency thinking and pathways thinkingdimension of hope are positive related with coping with problemdimension, and are negative correlated with coping with emotiondimension.(5)Coping style has the mediating effect on the relationship betweenhope and friendship quality.
