The current research on student turnover mainly focuses on the reasons andcountermeasures to school dropouts in rural schools, and some others describe the urban schooldropouts. But the research on junior high school student turnover in ethnic regions has seldom beenseen, and the same research on Ganzi Tibetan region has been even less often heard, where schooleducation failed to have an early start and was greatly influenced by the ethnic culture. This researchis attempted to explore the reasons and countermeasures to junior high school student turnover inGanzi Tibetan region.This research on student turnover chooses school dropouts and students who transfer out ofethnic regions as the subjects. Student turnover, a sudden incident which hides a long termaccumulation process, is the result of many factors, like culture, family, school and student itself. Sothis research is carried out from many perspectives to investigate and analyze the reasons for studentturnover. Methods like questionnaire survey, interview and documentation will be employed.Subjects like school dropouts, teachers and parents will be interviewed to talk about the currentsituation, reasons, family environment, school experiences and whereabouts after turnover.This paper will adopt research methods of quantity and quality. To begin with, onthe basis of document statement and through quantity statistics of student turnover inKangding’s four junior high schools in the past five years, the current situation ofstudent turnover will be investigated and the features of turnover will be analyzed.Student turnover includes school dropouts and students who transfer out of this region.Among the student turnover, most ethnic students quit school while most Han studentstransfer out of ethnic regions. Then on the basis of questionnaire survey and throughdeep research by individual interviews, analysis will be made on the reasons for studentturnover. It will find out that ethnic culture, family formation, family culture,community environment and deficiency of school education all contribute to studentturnover in Tibetan regions. Finally, based on the current education situation andfeatures of Ganzi Tibetan region, this paper will put forward advice andcountermeasures to control student turnover: the local government should make more efforts to publicize and implement relevant laws, to enrich cultural activities in Tibetanarea; schools should improve teachers’ quality and competence, strengthen curriculumreform, and regulate relevant principles; families should optimize family culture toprovide children a better family environment; students should improve their learningmotivations and reasonably attribute their learning achievement.
