Applying Augmented Reality Technology In Mobile Learning Environment

Augmented Reality is dedicated to combine virtual information with the realworld, creates new experiences of the world. It can provide a more natural userinterface and establish fascinating environment for education or entertainmentapplication. With the developing of information technology, augmented realityexperience the changes from PC to mobile services, from head mount display tohandheld LCD scream. Recently, AR is widely used in business, entertainment, andeducation.In this thesis, we apply AR in mobile learning, to explore the implementation ofmobile augmented reality technology in education. We have done such works: Firstly,the thesis introduce some cases of applying augmented reality in education, discussthe affordances and limitations of using augmented reality in education.Secondly, the thesis provide the theoretical foundations and technical assistanceabout applying mobile augmented reality in education, determine to develop the appbased on Google’s Android operating system and Qualcomm’s Vuforia platform, andanalysis some methods for using AR in education. We design and develop the appcalled AR Learning with the augmented reality technology to facilitate the Englishlistening comprehension. AR Learning includes four modules: image capturingmodule, image recognizing module, multimedia playing module and interactionmodule.Finally, the thesis apply AR Learning in self-directed learning of Englishlistening comprehension, then we use questionnaire survey and interview to analysisthe efforts of applying mobile augmented reality technology in English listeningcomprehension. Then, we discuss the applying methods about the using of augmentedreality in education.
