The former Soviet Union educator л·в·ванков (1970s) said: The relationship betweenteachers and students plays a very important role in the achievement of education. It meansteacher-student relationship plays a crucial role in those achievements of teaching, or eveneducation. In view of the fact that rural junior high school English teaching is relatively weak, and faces many difficulties, there is great significance in improving the quality of Englishteaching by avoiding the insufficiency of traditional teacher-student relationship. This thesis is based on the theory of symmetry from the perspective of authenticity, which is put forward by American linguistics professor Leo van Lier. It is helpful to createsymmetry teacher-student relationship in authenticity communicative classroom, for it couldrealize authentic intercourse class and symmetry teacher-student relationship throughconversations in class. This thesis focuses on study and analysis the influences ofteacher-student symmetry on rural middle school English teaching from the perspective ofauthenticity theory. This paper addresses three major research questions as follows:1. What is the situation of teacher-student symmetry in the rural regular junior highschool? And how to promote the current situation?2. How can teacher-student symmetry contribute to improving English education fromthe prospective of authenticity?3. What are the constraints in the application of teacher-student symmetry in the ruraljunior high school and why?The author conducted the study about the teacher-student symmetry based on theauthenticity theory proposed by Leo van Lier (1996), and teaching investigated junior highstudents of Dalian No.62Middle School for a whole semester, through observation, interview, questionnaire and pre-&post-tests. The author uses qualitative analysis and quantitativeanalysis to study the influences. The research results indicate that rural teacher-student symmetry is rather weak. It couldbe significantly improved by changing teacher-student interaction attitudes and teachingstrategies. Teacher-student symmetry would influence English education both directly andindirectly. However there are more to overcome, reflect and explore in applyingteacher-student symmetry in rural areas.
