With the increasing attention on the teacher action research in domestic fields, more and more scholars were involved in the investigation of it. Especially in Beijing, Shanghai and other developed regions, research institutes, senior experts as well as many primary and secondary teachers were engaged in this field. Substantial research concerning teacher action has been carried out and yielded significant results. Nevertheless, the status of action research of secondary school teachers in town is not clear, and the studies concerning this issue are scarce. Therefore, secondary school teachers in town were taken as the subjects of the present study in which questionnaires and interviews were employed as the main research method. After investigating150secondary school teachers with questionnaires,20teachers were selected as samples to be interviewed. Meanwhile, with the combination of self-teaching experience in middle school, this paper provided comprehensive and detailed analyses of secondary school teachers will, the status quo of the ability as well as external supports given by schools and explored the issues that secondary school teachers have encountered and the achievements they have made.The study found that both the will and the ability of the town secondary school teacher action research have been enhanced, and the system is also being improved, but there still existed some unresolved problems. In view of the will, high working pressure on teachers led to their declination of the will in action research, and weaker sense made the possibilities of teacher action research decrease; in terms of ability, the overall ability in teacher action research was not high with an imbalanced state; in the case of external school support, teacher action research system was not perfect and reasonable enough with a profile of the inadequate overall capital investment, unreasonable distribution, few opportunities for off-campus cooperation and deficient harmonious relationship. Therefore, the following suggestions were put forward to pave the way for the future studies in this filed. Firstly, we should reduce the teachers’ workload appropriately and strengthen the cooperative research. Moreover, we should increase the capital investment and allocate the funds reasonably. Thirdly, we can improve the evaluation system and establish rooms for scientific research. Finally, the school should provide opportunities for cooperation and improve relationships among the partners, which can enhance the status-quo of the teacher action research.
