With the rapid development of urbanization and continually growing aging populationinto the city in China, a number of the old have to leave home to an unfamiliar city for livingtogether with their children or taking care of the third generation. This group of people whocan enjoy family happiness while at the same time suffer from the loneliness and trouble ofliving in unfamiliar surroundings, are called" aged immigrants’. The national bureau ofstatistics released the sixth national census data showed that at the end of2010, the totalpopulation of China is1370536875, and the floating population in our country is260million,greatly increased over the past ten years. Over the same period, the population of over60years old accounts for13.26%in our country, speeding up the ageing process. Data indicatesthat as the population flow and urbanization development, the proportion of drift "old" isincreasing.At present, as the size of aged immigrants is on the rise, the problem of their adaptationto society stands out increasingly. However, there is relatively less study on this kind of thespecial group between urban and rural areas in the domestic. The mushrooming amount of theaged immigrants certainly will give rise to great pressure and impact on some aspects such asthe development of economy and social security. As a result, the family and social problemswill be brought up and gradually increase. Therefore, how to properly resolve the problemswith which the aged immigrants are faced is a complicate teamwork. Aged immigrants arestrict in urbanization of China and rural household registration system and fast socialdevelopment, influenced by family standard consciousness; Chinese old people think theyhave an obligation to raising children, at least for them to solve trouble back at home. Livingin cities, they have common life is: lonely, confused, without a friend, miss home, mental andpsychological empty nest is more serious. This paper elaborates the aged immigrants in alimited sense, that is, by means of literature research and in-depth interview, it selects theaged that has moved from rural areas and small towns and lived in urban as subjects of thestudy, analyses their difficulties in adapting to urban life. This article, taking into the oldpeople from rural areas and small towns to cities as the research object, analyzes theirdilemma in adapting urban life, trying to deeply study and discuss their urban socialadaptation means from the perspective of social work. The content of aged immigrants’ social adaptation is embedded in every facade of urbanlife. Due to their physical and psychological has many uncomfortable, the group faceddifficulties in urban, mainly in communication, lifestyle, entertainment, social role,intergenerational relations, cultural custom and other aspects. In order to more in-depthunderstanding and analysis of aged immigrants’ city social adaptation problem, this articlemakes it concrete by describing their city adaptation from four aspects, which are state ofpsychology, thought and concept, pattern of behavior and social support. Throughinterviewing the old people from rural areas and small towns to cities and conducting acomprehensive investigation to them, the article will analyze and state their present lifesituation but also their dilemma in adapting urban life systematically and detailed. Moreover,it will use social case work, social group work and community work intervene the problem ofaged immigrants’ city social adaptation. On this basis, it attempts to explore ways and meansof social work from personal, family and community to improve aged immigrants’ socialadaptation level, restore their social function, and promote their sense of happiness.
