ObjectiveTo construct the quality evaluation index system for graduation thesis of self-studyexamination of nursing undergraduate with higher reliability and validity, and to investigatethe current quality level of graduation thesis in nursing undergraduate of self-studyexamination by using evaluation scales in Hunan province.MethodsThe framework of quality evaluation index system was initially constructed usingmethods of literature study, student focus group interviews, theoretical analysis and Delphi.Then the Analytic Hierarchy Process was adoped to ensure the index’s weight. Twenty-fivegraduation theses were randomly selected and investigated from attending the graduationthesis defense in nursing undergraduate of self-study examination of University of SouthChina. The pilot data were analyzed with the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS)software version18.0, including reliability and validity analysis. Then158graduation theseswere surveyed, a series of statistic analysis was conducted, such as correlation analysis,factor analysis, and etc. At last, the current quality level of graduation thesis in nursingundergraduate of self-study examination by using evaluation scales in Hunan province weredescribed and analyzed through370data in400graduation theses.Results(1) After two-round consultation, the quality evaluation system was constructed, whichincluded the scale for faculty advisers, the scale for reviewing teachers and the scale forthesis defense teachers. The scale for faculty advisers included5items of level1and16items of level2, the scale for reviewing teachers included4items of level1and14items oflevel2, the scale for thesis defense teachers included5items of level1and14items of level2.(2) The scale for faculty advisers included5dimensions and16items. The scale for reviewing teachers included4dimensions and14items. The scale for thesis defenseteachers included5dimensions and14items. Their content validity indexes wererespectively for0.909,0.952and0.864. Their construct validity cumulative contributionrates of the dimensions factors were respectively for72.77%,66.19%and63.79%. Theirinternal consistency reliability coefficients Cronbach’sαwere respectively for0.953,0.810and0.926. It showed that the scales were in the allowable range. The correlations betweeneach factor and total score were significant. Psychometric tests with the application ofstringent criteria confirmed the construct validity (factor analysis confirmed the hypothesisof the scale) and acceptability (response rate was97.2%, effective rate was92.5%).(3) The total score of graduation thesis was68.65±5.48in the four student points ofself-study examination of nursing undergraduate in Hunan province.Conclusion(1) The quality evaluation index system for graduation thesis of self-study examination ofnursing undergraduate includes three scales for faculty advisers, for reviewing teachers andfor thesis defense teachers.(2) Three evaluation scales have good reliability and validity, which can be used to evaluategraduation thesis quality of undergraduate from self-study examination of nursing.(3) The whole quality was in medium and lower level in the four student points of self-studyexamination of nursing undergraduate in Hunan province.
