| The revitalization of the old liberated areas in Gannan requires that education shouldbe top of the agenda. The education of senior middle school students is important to thecultivation of talents. The ideological and political education is an essential part of theeducation effort and is a fundamental guarantee of cultivating talents of both ability andpolitical integrity. It not only helps to lay a solid foundation for a high scientific andcultural level but also works as an important platform for the student to establish a correctoutlook on life, the world and values as well and cultivate good ideological and moralquality. In the context of globalization and the omnipresent Internet, when “State Council’sopinions on supporting the revitalization and development of Gannan, former Sovietcentral government†and other series of development policies supporting the education inthe old liberated areas have been issued, it is undoubtedly of great significance to explorehow Gannan high schools should cope with the challenges and seize the opportunities, sothat high school students’ ideological and political education in that area can promote thebenign interaction between local spiritual culture and local social and economicdevelopment and help boost the level of the high school student’s ideological and politicaleducation the old liberated areas in Gannan.This paper first analyzes the status quo of the ideological and political education ofhigh school students in Gannan, namely students emphasize “reality†but ignore“falsehoodâ€, families emphasize “intelligence†ignore “moralityâ€, schools emphasize“tests†but ignore “pragmatism,†society emphasize “newness†but ignore “traditionâ€. Thenthe paper goes on to discusses the four aspects of the problems existing in the ideologicaland political education of high school students in Gannan: first of all, students’ failure torecognize the importance of ideological and political education influences their subjectivedemand; second, expecting children to be successful is a traditional thinking prevailingamong parents; third, schools count enrollment rate as their guidance. Such deficiencies asthe shortage of teachers, backward teaching methods, the inadequate educational systemand the evaluation system make things worse; fourth, the local economic development is oflow levels and negative social thoughts also show their bad effect. In view of the abovequestions, attention should been focused on four aspects to improve and upgrade highschool students’ ideological and political education in the old liberated areas in Gannan.First, schools should innovate the concept of education and reform teaching methods andgive full play to the initiative of students and improve teaching effect; second, familiesshould play the role of “enlightener†and schools should serve as the “main battlefield†andperfect the educational evaluation mechanism. Moreover, governments should increasefunding for education and strive to create a favorable social and cultural environment; third, teachers’ training programs in ideological and political education should be planned andorganized to optimize high school teachers’ ability and knowledge structure and give fullplay to the teachers “leading roleâ€; fourth, education departments should make full use ofthe former Soviet Central ideological and political work experience and organize scholarsto compile ideological and political textbooks with Gannan characteristics, and emulate theeducation mode of Lenin-era primary schools and develop characteristic education byusing local resources of red revolution. |
