“Cultivating students’ practical ability, innovation spirit and social responsibility” isthe latest requirement of the university personnel training which is proposed by the partyand the state. Ideological and Political Theory Course (abbreviated as “Ideological andPolitical Course”) is the main channel and front to educate the socialist builders andsuccessors. In order to meet this requirement, we must strengthen the practical educationto play the role of educating people when simplifying theoretical teaching. Because of itsunique educational function, Second Classroom Practice becomes an important platformto cultivate students’“theory with practice”,“Xuesi binding” and “unity of knowledge”. Itis regarded as an excellent carrier of practical education. Under the new situation, with thehelp of the Second Class, Ideological and Political Course carries out practical teachingwhich is themed by special activities. The above approach is very important to improvethe relevance and effectiveness of practical teaching of ideological and political.Firstly, this paper makes a summary about the concepts and theories of the SecondClass and Ideological and Political Course to lay the theoretical foundation for the study.Secondly, through looking up extensive literature and using the comparative research, itmakes a comparison on the typical universities which make remarkable achievements onpractical teaching of ideological and political. Based on the reality it summarizes thecurrent status of Ideological and Political Course, and makes an emphasis on the existingproblems. Thirdly, based on the conclusion of the characteristics of Second Class and thefunction of ideological and political education, it analyzes feasibility of the Second Classas an extending channel of the practical teaching of ideological and political, and pointsthe unique advantage of relying on the Second Classroom to carry out practical teachingof ideological and political to promote the subjectivity of the educators and theeffectiveness of practical teaching of ideological and political. Finally, aiming at therealistic difficulties of the practical teaching of ideological and political, summarizing theexperience of creation of practical teaching of Yanshan University’s “Red Melody” series,and combining theory, it proposes innovative ideas to build an effective practical teaching model of the Ideological and Political Theory Course’s Second Classroom, to improve therelevance and effectiveness of the practical teaching of ideological and political and trainnew talents who are in line with the development of the society.
