| Why was Ghana (1957-1993) able to be out of the mire of democraticrollback, while Nigeria (1960-1983), a state of highly similar contexts, includingin tribal politics, had to be stuck in it constantly? This research indicates that thedifferent pattern and level of cooperation between tribes and other groups causethe contradictory results of an endeavour to recover from the mire in bothcountries. When conducting this study, I employ panel analysis and controlvariables repetitiously during the within-and cross-case analyses. Theconclusion of my research can well support a famous argument that stateness isa necessary prerequisite for democratization, but meanwhile it questions whetherhomogeneity is an indispensible condition for democratization. |
