Teaching objective is an old and eternal topic in the field of educational theory and educational practice. Classroom teaching objective is the soul and the key of a class, the design of the classroom teaching objective is the premise and guarantee of the classroom teaching activity. Junior high school stage is an initial stage in which students start their formal studies of English, so the classroom teaching efficiency is particularly important, and there is no doubt that designing the classroom teaching objective scientifically and reasonably is an extremely important work. However, as the designers of the classroom teaching objective, some front-line teachers have many problems and misunderstanding ideas in designing the junior English classroom teaching objectives.On the basis of theories of effective teaching, teaching objective classification and teaching objective statement, this paper uses research methods such as literature research, interviewing investigation, classroom observation and action research method to study the design of junior English classroom teaching objectives in a relatively comprehensive way. The aim of this research is to point out the key problems which need attention in classroom teaching objective design, and to proposes principles and concrete strategies on designing scientific and reasonable classroom teaching objectives in order to optimize the classroom teaching, at the same time, to provide theoretical and practical guidance for English teachers so that they can increase the awareness of teaching objectives designing, improve the level of teaching objectives designing and eventually enhance the classroom teaching efficiency.The basic framework of this research is as follows: First, based on the investigation, the article points out the problems existing in the design of junior high school English classroom teaching objectives and analyzes the reasons. Second, in order to solve these problems, on one hand, the article puts forward the principles of teaching objectives design on the basis of the theory of effective teaching, namely “based on the original experience of the students”, “help the students built up knowledge system of the subject”, “combine presupposition with generation”, “promote the general development of the students”, “carry out holistic education centered on the students”. On the other hand, the article puts forward concrete strategies of English classroom teaching objectives design, including design basis, which contains National Standard for Junior English Curriculum, teaching materials, the levels and needs of students, teaching environment and so on, and concrete methods of establishing the three-dimensional objectives, which are knowledge and skills, process and steps,emotion, attitude and values. Finally, this article takes lesson4, unit4, grade8 English as example to design English teaching objectives according to the principles and strategies pointed out in the text, and the effect of the teaching practice is evaluated and summarized.
