Educating talents for the country through strengthening morality is the basic mission of moral education in higher institution. In the period of social transformation, our moral education is confronted with many theoretical and practical problems, one of which mostly attracts the attention of the society and academic circle is the actual effect of moral education. Regarding this situation, a series of approaches have been explored to tackle this issue from the aspects of social system, exterior surroundings, students themselves and so forth. Admittedly, the continuous enhancement and healthy development of moral education are inseparable from the support and cooperation of the fore-mentioned approaches, but in fact, they radically depend on the autonomous operation of moral education itself under the control of its inherent law. Therefore, under the background of new era, probing into reformative paths to augment the actual effect from the interior view is the unshirkable duty of moral education in higher institution.Everything on the earth and anything in the society contain layers commonly, so there is no exception for moral activity in human spiritual realm. Focus and study on the layers of moral education in higher institution is both the objective demand of improving moral education theory and the practical demand of boosting the actual effect of moral education. The moral education stratification in higher education, which derives from the essence and the development law of morality, is not only the requirement of student’s moral development, but also the appeal of successful enforcement of moral education. Currently, the research on the layers of moral education in higher institution is on the increase with great breadth and depth. However, most of the existing studies, which focus on one aspect or several aspects, lack overall consideration and systematic thinking. On the basis of referring to multidisciplinary theories and previous studies critically, using research approaches like literature study, comparative analysis and text analysis, this dissertation is meant to carry out a comparatively overall and systematic research on the layers of moral education in higher institution under the direction of dialectical materialism and historical materialism, the contents include:the features and causes of the lack of the layers of moral education in higher institution, the internal requirement, real basis, fundamental principle and overall design of moral education stratification in higher institution.This dissertation is made up of three parts, namely introduction, four chapters of main body and epilogue. The introduction part elaborates the research background, the theoretical and practical importance, the core concept, the research thoughts, the research methods and the literature review successively. The 1st chapter discloses the concrete features and its detriments of the lack of the layers of moral education in higher institution from the angle of its educators, goals, contents, methods and evaluation criteria. The 2nd chapter mainly analyses the five causes which results in the lack of the layers of moral education in higher institution:the far-reaching influence of pursuing summum bonum in traditionally cultural psychology, the incessant aftermath of the politicalization of moral education, the impact of adult tendency of the preliminary and secondary moral education, the disparity between virtue-oriented ethics and norm-oriented ethics, the common effects of all factors included in moral education in higher institution itself. The 3r chapter firstly discourses upon the internal requirement and practical basis of the stratification of moral education in higher institution, and comes to the conclusion that the stratification is the objective law and the inevitable demand of moral education in higher institution, therefore puts forward the research angle. Next, this chapter expounds the four principles of the stratification: the unity of wholeness and layer, the unity of dominance and layer, the unity of continuation and layer and the unity of repetitiveness and recursion. These three chapters aim to foreshadow for the establishing of the stratification system of moral education in higher education. According to the "proposing problem--analyzing problem-solving problem" logic process, the 4th chapter brings forward the design proposal and makes an attempt to establish the stratification system with distinct gradation, great coordination and internal interlocking. Since the stratification is an integrated system almost including all the moral education elements, so it should be taken into consideration from an overall and systematic angle. Thereinto, the foundation of stratification is to treat the multiple-level objects of moral education accurately, the core of stratification is to set multiple-level goals, the carrier of stratification is to optimize multiple-level contents, the means of stratification is to assemble multiple-level methods, and the safeguard of stratification is to adopt multiple-level evaluations. The epilogue part summarizes the research findings and reiterates the basic viewpoints of the entire dissertation, in addition, it points out the puzzlement and question produced during the research process, and then elaborates the defects and limits of this research, unfolds the prospects of follow-up studies. The whole research embodies the purpose of practicability prominently, aiming to explore a scientific development line of moral education which is appropriate to the law of moral education, the student’s moral development and the current society status through establishing a moral education stratification system, thereby, the actual effect and the healthy development of moral education in higher institution can be enforced and promoted.
