Towards The Autonomous And Cooperative Teacher Culture

Abstract/Summary:
Teacher culture has important significance in the development of teachers、 students、school improvement and education reform. The implementation and further promotion of the new curriculum reform result in two kinds of situation:on the one hand, as the education center of gravity shift downward, teachers receive more attention; on the other hand, lower center of gravity also bring a series of problems, such as too much emphasis on the immediate effect of teaching and researching activities, while the teacher culture formed in the process of activities receive less attention. Although in recent years, there have been some research and practice on teacher culture, but quite a number of studies are affiliated to school change、 curriculum reform and education culture research. In addition, the research has mainly focus on the discussion of teacher culture ontology, but the cooperation in practice often appears inefficient, inflexibility, and false cooperation. Therefore, this issue still needs to be further studied currently. Based on the practical observation and theoretical thinking, this paper attempts to discuss the autonomous and cooperative teacher culture. The main contents are as follows:First, the main problems of teacher culture existing in the current are reviewed and analyzed based on the practical observation、interview and the author’s thinking, manifested in two aspects:theoretical level and practical level. The problems in practice can be divided into three small aspects:lack of cooperative culture, one-dimensional cooperation and contrived collegiality. Independent success concept, nonparticipation and narrow competitive psychological are the main performance of cooperative culture shortage. One-dimensional cooperation is that teacher often cooperate based on grade and subject only, there is a tendency to homogeneity teacher cooperation, lacking of multidimensional dialogue and cooperation. Contrived collegiality is that administrative imposition that requires teachers to meet and work together.Second, apply the theory of Hargreaves to the problems appeared in teachers’ professional learning and cooperation, then perspective on the theory’s local relevance to our country and its advancement and limitation. Lastly, In view of this limitation, the article draws on the logical thinking of Cultural Dimensions Theory of power distance, masculine-feminine, uncertainty avoidance, making a new interpretation of teacher culture.Finally, the paper mainly discuss the autonomous and cooperative teacher culture. The main factors that influence the formation of teacher culture are:teachers’ authority, competition and cooperation, teacher emotion, closed and open. According to that, basic idea of reshaping teacher culture are proposed. The ideal teacher culture should be autonomous, open, dialogue and cooperation. Lastly, combining the cases of teacher cooperation practice, three specific paths toward the autonomous and cooperative teacher culture are illuminated:school system, organization and activity.
