Pop culture works as an emotion-related culture, a combination of language, thought and behavioral symbols. High school students, as a group of culture subjects, are deeply influenced by pop culture in their daily work, behavior, habits and thinking patterns. On the one hand, high school students are open-minded, ready to embrace new things and easily affected by pop culture. On the other hand, high school period is very crucial in a student’s school years. Facing the pressures of College Entrance Examination, high school students need ways to get rid of their pressures, which can be regarded as their normal mental and emotional needs. As a result, the study of high school students’ pop culture is beneficial to the healthy development of students’ mainstream culture.The research subjects of the thesis are the students in the First Middle School of Chaling in Hunan Province. The thesis applies case-study method in studying the cultural phenomenon of high school students’ pop culture and reveals its characteristics. The research shows that all kinds of pop elements have become an important part of high school students’ mental life. They are fond of shopping online, Korean TV serials,updating microblogs, using We-chat, listening to pop songs and speaking fashionable words. Obviously, current high school students’ pop culture is like a coin that has two sides. It brings them colorful entertaining activities while it has profound influence on the morality, mental health,behavioral habits, values and academic performance of high school students.High school students are in a very crucial period of forming moral characters and facing the pressures of going to college. The whole societyshould shoulder the responsibilities of creating a healthy pop culture environment. As a result, this thesis puts forward the following solutions in how to create healthy high school students’ pop culture. Firstly, to take full advantage of the moral values of socialism, and secondly, to make use of the media in creating a pop culture influenced by healthy mainstream culture, and thirdly, to adopt school managing measures including purifying campus environment, improving cultural appreciation taste and completing grading systems to lead students’ pop culture, and fourthly, to use educational methods to promote positive pop cultures, and fifthly, to fully use family education in creating harmonious pop culture.
