With the development of science and technology, teaching methods have become more and more advanced. As a modern teaching method,multimedia-aided teaching enjoys great popularity among educators because of its powerful function, intuition, long storage time and other distinctive advantages. However, in geography teaching, will traditional teaching(refer to blackboard writing, blackboard diagram and blackboard drawing, hereafter referred to as “three boards” teaching) be out of use completely? How do we integrate traditional teaching media with modern teaching media to make them both serve for geography education? This is a thoughtful question for us. Therewith, the author carries on the preliminary exploration of the question based on her own practices.This study takes Compulsory Geography Teaching Textbook One of Hunan version as an example, exploring the problem on how to integrate traditional teaching with multimedia teaching in geography teaching. At first, this paper adopts the method of literature review to know about the predecessors’ research and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the two teaching methods, which lays a good foundation for the study. Then, questionnaire survey method is employed to survey the current status of high school students and teachers of grade one from six high schools of different levels in Changsha in order to learn about the usage of “three boards” and multimedia teaching in classes. Again, the case study method aims to find out the integrating point between traditional teaching and multimedia teaching in geography course. Andanalysis and induction method is used. It comes to the conclusion that while integrating traditional teaching with multimedia teaching, the optimality, intuitive, subjectivity and moderation principles should be followed. And the following suggestions are made: Grasping solid professional knowledge and basic computer knowledge; designing blackboard writing carefully; choosing flexible teaching methods;combining with heuristic teaching method; the establishing the impeccable classroom assessment mechanism.The study on how to integrate traditional teaching and multimedia teaching is based on combining theories with practice to the maximum extent. The integrating principles and suggestions put forward have referential significance for guiding geography education, improving teachers’ quality and deepening the reform of education methods.
