Cultivating the teaching abilities of the middle school history teachers is the important subject of cultivating the professional abilities of the current history teachers. Based on the requirements of “National Professional Standards for Middle School Teachers”(hereinafter referred to as NPSMST), this paper holds that the professional abilities of middle school history teachers consist of advanced teaching concept, teaching ability, interpersonal and self-development ability and class management ability, etc by combining with the interpretation of NPSMST in the academic circle. Only by being equipped with these professional abilities could the middle school history teachers meet the requirements of classroom teaching activities, classroom and student activities, teaching evaluation activities and professional self-development activities and become qualified and professional middle school history teachers. Among them, teaching ability is the core and basis of the professional abilities of middle school history teachers, including teaching design ability, teaching implementation ability, teaching evaluation ability and teaching development ability.By surveying the present situation of the teaching abilities of the middle school history teachers in Pulandian District, Dalian, it is found that the majority of middle school history teachers could meet the requirements of NPSMST on the teaching abilities of middle school history teachers. Meanwhile, during the survey, it is found that there still exist teaching ability problems among the current middle school history teachers in such aspects as the design of teaching objectives, the implementation of the teaching process, student evaluation, self-evaluation and self-development consciousness. Targeted at these problems discovered in the survey, this thesis makes an overall design on the pre-service cultivation, initial-service training and post-service research and study and forms an integrated pattern for improving the teaching abilities of middle school history teachers based on NPSMST as well as the requirements of national innovative talents and middle school new curriculum reform.Teaching ability cultivation of history teachers is a continuous and dynamic process ongoing throughout the professional development career of history teachers. However, history teachers do not have innate teaching abilities. Only by unremitting efforts and conscious cultivation and training could they improve their teaching abilities so as to adapt to the needs of new curriculum reform and social development and become qualified and even excellent history teachers.
